🍒 Expectations vs. Reality: Book Edition! Because 🍒 Expectations vs. Reality: Book Edition! Because I have a lot of hot takes apparently 🌶️Some I expected to be good, others bad…💨I would like to elaborate on my journey reading the original Mistborn Trilogy, because I was swept up by the hype train. It was my first Sanderson book, and I was NOT expecting his writing to be as modern as it is, which was jarring. I thought The Final Empire was FINE, if not a little clichéd. Don’t get me wrong, the tropes are some of my personal favorites and Sanderson does cool things with all of them. I just didn’t think it was ThE GREAtEsT fAnTAsY BoOk eVErR WrITtENNn, as the internet would have led me to believe.🖤However, I was sucked in by the politics of The Well of Ascension—I go head over heels for a good political fantasy. It was reading the 2nd book that I realized how MUCH Sanderson was packing into the structure of the novels. My respect for first book and my understanding of why everyone thought it was so good fell into place.🌟The Hero of Ages did make me cry and that is a HIGH BAR—I think because I read so much, nothing really phases me anymore, and characters don’t often stick in my mind. I cannot say the same for Vin, Elend, and Sazed. I was blown away by the allusions, symbolism, and sheer SCALE of everything that happened in only 3 books. And that is how The Final Empire didn’t meet my expectations and The Hero of Ages blew me away.#romantasy #fantasy #bookish #bookrecs #romance

📕 Bad Mormon 🌟🌟🌟February was kind of a weird month for me. After coming off the all time high of 22 books in the month of January, I really did think that nothing stood in the way of me and my reading goal, but settling into a new job will do that to you 🤷🏻‍♀️February was also kind of a strange month just due to the content of what I was reading. I had to offset all the middle grade with some sort of reverse eye bleach. My forte is generally darker themes, so I had to return to form somehow. Then come in all my culty memoirs.“A Well-Trained Wife” by Tia Levings was my absolute favorite this month. Her memoir was my perfect mix of educational, emotional, and entertaining. I highly recommend it if you want to learn more about the IBLP.I also have to thank @fundiefridays for reigniting the childhood fascination I had with the Duggars and 19 Kids and Counting. I never would have picked up a few of these memoirs (Star-Spangled Jesus too!) had I not heard about them from going down a rabbit hole of Jen’s content. - a proud JennoniteIt was Heather Gay’s interview with @alyssadgrenfell which sparked me to pick up Bad Mormon. I’d never seen anything related to the Real Housewives of any city—let alone Salt Lake— and was absolutely sold in that interview alone. But to be honest I think I’d be interested most things Alyssa talks about 😂🏷️ fundie memoirs, exvangelical memoirs, cult books, sociopolitical books, non fiction,

Come with me while I read Percy Jackson and the Ol Come with me while I read Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Titan’s Curse 🌊⭐️⭐️⭐️.5I work about 55 hours a week with both of my jobs, so I take all the reading I can get. I often switch between the physical book and the audiobook to get the most out of my time.🔥It shouldn’t be a hot take that audiobooks count as reading. It’s 2026, guys. Let’s get with the (audio) program.Percy Jackson has always been one of those series that I felt like I wasn’t a true reader if I didn’t complete. It feels like a rite of passage for any child who says they’re a reader. Somehow, I skipped this crucial step in middle schoo going straight to ACOTAR in 2017.You know how therapists tell you to heal your inner child? Well, I think reading Percy Jackson is doing that for me. I only read the first two novels as a kid, so the Titans Curse is uncharted territory.Looking at the series with an adult perspective has changed how I view it as a whole, whether from the lens of its sociocultural importance or a personal perspective, I somehow have more respect for the series than when I started this reading journey. While The Titans Curse failed to capture the majesty of the first novel, it was still an enjoyable read. I liked it more than the Sea of Monsters, which is where I stopped reading in middle school.Follow for more #percyjacksonandtheolympians🏷️
